> Commodities and International Trade
As well as dealing with disputes relating to the carriage of goods by sea, road and air we have extensive experience of assisting commodity trading clients with problems arising under international sale contracts. This covers a wide range of commodities including oil and petrochemicals, grain and feedstuffs, edible oils, sugar and metals.
Following the June 2008 merger with Holmes Hardingham our commodities practice is headed by Nicholas Walser, who has more than 30 years’ experience in maritime and international trade law. He is a fluent French speaker and is a correspondent member of the French Maritime Law Association.
We regularly handle arbitrations under the rules of the London-based commodity trade associations such as GAFTA, FOSFA and the RSA. These disputes are frequently resolved without formal legal representation, and we understand the importance of working closely with clients and their trade representatives in the preparation of submissions and evidence for commodity trade arbitrators. We regularly handle appeals to the High Court on points of law.
We also handle matters relating to trade finance, including problems involving Letters of Credit, cargo inspection and certification and collateral management agreements.
